Pinelopi Gerasimou comes from a small town in Greece on the Ionian Sea. Since she was a child, she has enjoyed taking photos of important moments in the lives of those around her. Then, around twelve, she became obsessed with waves. Nearly twenty years later, Pinelopi Gerasimou says that the mystery of the liquid movement captured by the camera continues to fascinate her.
The series New Earth is a way of doing photographic research about the Earth, bypassing the need to document the reality, she explains. Pinelopi Gerasimou endeavors to translate into images the organic, nearly terrene qualities of the photographed elements. Indeed, the sea, the earth, and the sky are at the core of her work. Their movements and textures as well as light shining through them continue to fuel her fascination and inspire new projects, such as Arrow in Flight, Geodessy.
