Since its creation in 1950, Picto maintains special ties with photographers by weaving a close relationship, listening to them and advising them. The family business knew how to perpetuate a state of mind from generation to generation all while continuing, year after year, to adapt to technological advances. Two years ago, the creation of an endowment fund marked a turn and made a near seventy-year bond with photographers concrete. Its intention? To support emerging talents and the numerous people involved in photography life. Two examples: providing the winners of the Prix Niépce with access to Picto’s laboratory to create artistic pieces and, in 2017, creating a program in partnership with Paris Photo and Gares & Connexion which attempts to facilitate the integration of graduates from European visual art and photography schools into the market.
Ten years ago, Picto became a pioneering figure by offering an online printing service. The fifth version, which just launched, now more than ever emphasizes the idea of sharing photographers’ knowledge and support. From now on, Picto Online is equipped with a blog. Faithful to the spirit of Pierre Gassmann, Picto continues to give its experience to photographers, be they professionals or amateurs. “The Picto Online blog is an extension of who we are and what we do every day,” explains Hugo de Fenyi Rouvière. He tells us more in this interview.
Why have you decided to revisit the ergonomics and practice of Picto Online?
Our objective is to offer a new experience in order to respond to the expectations formed by our clients. In fact, following a questionnaire we asked them to complete a year ago, it seemed as though they were looking for more supports, more informations and advices. A challenge that we decided to take.
What is the main development?
It’s philosophical. A tool especially intended for an informed public – photographers perfectly know what we have to offer and wanting to get to the important stuff –, we wished to address all photography lovers, whatever their level of expertise in the field of photo printing and finishing touch. For that, we’ve created tools, like Picto Easy, a step-by-step to easily find its services, and we renewed our product sheets, from now on illustrated with new packshots. But, to reassure our regular customers , the parameter interface remains unchanged…
The big news is that Picto Online now has a blog…
More than a basic blog, it’s a real platform of knowledge. It’s our goal to put our skills and expertise to serve of all those who wanted to have the right tools to create exceptional photo prints. Today, it’s within everyone’s reach.
What information can one find on the blog?
The fuel of the blog is made around two axis. The first idea is to respond to the expectations of our clients and partners who want to know more about our services. This requires, for example, a detailed description of different types of prints offered by Picto. By offering a simple but precise language, we want to address experts as well as amateurs. So, we apply the same attention to details of the blog’s content about our services. Each article is endorsed by our production director, Michel Vaissaud.
The second axis?
More big news! We have chosen to take on subjects that do not uniquely concern our products and services. With two texts drafted in the form of featured articles, interviews, testimonies, and even tests, we can answer questions asked by both amateurs as well as professionals. To cite a few examples: What is real black and white? How do you print quality photos from your phone? What are the tricks for preparing your files before printing?
How is this blog complementary to what you already offer?
We already offer a certain volume of informative content through our product and service pages, but those don’t have comprehensive informations. In general terms, they are explanatory about the nature of printing or finishing. From now on, when someone wants to know more, all they need to do is click on the links that will send them to blog articles.
What is the goal of this blog?
In the long run, to become a reference for those who are looking for quality informations on photo prints. We are already thinking about ways to improve it, especially with video, which would bring another element. It won’t be long!
