Gulmarg, in Kashmir, is the highest mountain station in the world. With winter sports when the snow appears at the foot of the Himalayas, a haven of coolness in the summer since the colonial period for the well-off, this pleasant corner of the world is also one of the most militarized places, due to the tensions between India and Kashmir. In square format, using subtle colors, the photographer paints a complex panorama of this unique situation by alternating little scenes, often funny, of daily life and series of portraits that show a social reality less ideal than appearances would make it seem. The locals, who work in the hotels and restaurants and serve as tourist guides, do not live in Gulmarg, but every evening go back down to the village where they live in economically precarious conditions.

After earning the DNAP at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, Marion continued her studies at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière, where she received a Master’s degree in photography in 2011. She has participated in numerous collective exhibitions: Hors Cadre, Espace Confluence, Paris 2010; Images Solidaires, Espace Dupon, Paris, 2011. She is the laureate of the Upp/Dupon Découverte competition, and also of the Jeunes Talents Européens Wall For 2011 (Fashion section).
