Photo Phnom Penh Festival : Yousos Apdoulrashim : Roundable

Preview

The twelfth edition of the Photo Phnom Penh Festival presents Roundable by Yousos Apdoulrashim.

Man always dreamed of flying, both to acquire a freedom of which the birds show the example, but also to see the world differently, to overlook it, to have a different perception of it.

If they do not allow us to take off, drones give us, in a much easier way than it was possible before from an airplane, the possibility to achieve these aerial views which totally change the vision of space and geography.

Roundabouts are seen everywhere in the world as a means of progress. From above, they propose first another graphic, another organization of the shapes of the world. Which, on the common basis of a large circle, allows variations, the addition of triangles, compositions with materials and colors, geometrical decorative structures. The cars become toys punctuating the space around the roundabout, we can sometimes see, thanks to the shadow cast, the presence of a pedestrian and, always scrutinizing the shadow, try to guess which statue marks the center of the construction. And we can see that, at the very beginning of a roundabout, there’s only a circle of ocher earth.

Born in 1993 in Kompong Cham province, he obtained his Business Marketing degree in 2017 from Norton University in Phnom Penh.

He has been working since 2013 for The Phnom Penh Post group where, since 2019, he has been a cameraman.

He practices photography for his pleasure and shot in 2020 his first structured series, the one on roundabouts, when he was one of the students of Studio Images run by Philong Sovan at Institut Français du Cambodge.
