Phillips’ Photographs Sale Sets New Auction Records for Single Works by Hannah Wilke and Roy DeCarava
Sarah Krueger, Head of Photographs, New York, said, “Hannah Wilke’s S.O.S. Starification Object Series (Performalist Self-Portrait with Les Wollam), from the collection of Helen Kornblum, led today’s sale at $225,000, setting a new auction record for a single print by the artist.
In addition to the exceptional result for Wilke, we set a record for a single print by Roy DeCarava, whose Hallway, New York soared to $72,500, over seven times its low estimate.
A testament to his tremendous contributions to the field of photography, the late Robert Frank’s works also performed particularly well, with images from The Americans figuring prominently in the Top Ten, led by Parade, Hoboken, New Jersey, which reached $162,500. We now look forward to turning our attention to the London Photographs sale later this month.”
