The Toulouse native Philippe-Gérard Dupuy has devoted his life to photography and produced a singular and diverse body of work. Known for his photographs of jazzmen, made over the years at the Festival de Marciac, he is also a dry wit who has always got a kick out of subverting the reality and putting on skits to manufacture mischievous images. The worlds he creates are a happy blend of satire, cynicism, and humor. In the series entitled Charade, he scours the internet for pictures of particularly spectacular car accidents, and appropriates them and rearranges them in his own way. He turns them into images where the uncanny and the fantastic play tug of war with the comical. Philippe-Gérard Dupuy’s Charade is currently on view at the Château d’Eau Gallery in Toulouse.
