Since the start of the Covid-19 crisis, the Franco-American documentary photographer Peter Turnley has been in New York. His photographs show the deeply human face and soul of this moment. Although he has covered most of the world’s conflicts over the past four decades, it is the first time he has found himself in the midst of a war, “at home”, with no visible enemy.
“Since the start of the coronavirus crisis in New York, I have been going out almost every day, with my camera and my laptop, always carefully keeping a social distance from everyone, wearing a mask, gloves, going back to where I live alone. It is essential that at this point in our collective life, the stories of so many heroes and victims, of all sizes, be documented, helping to bring us together now, and forever.”
