They sail from one end of the world to the other, anchoring only where and when the ship’s owner directs them.
These are the people of the sea.
Transporting 90% of the world’s goods, they are the motor of the global economy.
Most of them are exploited. The practice of flying “flags of convenience” allows shipowners to transport environmentally hazardous waste, pay their employees little (if at all) to work in dangerous and unsanitary conditions, with no job security.
This is a portrait of these castaway sailors for whom time has stopped.
