These old farmers and farmhands are the actors of another way of life, but also of a different relationship to photography, one that is calmer and less common today. They worked in the countryside and had a simple, local life.
The women in apron and with glasses, the men in caps,sitting in their kitchen with coffee, calvados, wood stove, oilcloth: these are simple people of little means. These people who have bought fruit and vegetables from me for the past twenty years, are supporting me. They are extraordinary people. Their poses are never forced, and I never photograph them more than once, out of respect.
