Paris : Roland et Sabrina Michaud, Iran of dust and azure

Preview

Jean-François Camp is showing within his walls, a new exhibition dedicated to the  couple, Roland and Sabrina Michaud, with a particular focus on their pictures taken in Iran.

“In 1965 Roland and Sabrina Michaud left for the Orient without knowing they were going to nurture twenty years later, a complete generation of photographers,  magnetised by the beauty of their prints, to follow in their footsteps and  dedicate themselves to the craft of photography. I was one of them, deciding, on coming back from Kabul, to put down my bags for ten years in Iran. A long time later, I had the great pleasure of working with them in the production of their exhibitions.
Thanks to the sensible advice and the gracious presence of Chantal Soler, I was able to immerse myself again in their works and particularly in the sumptuous Faïences d’Azur, published by the Imprimerie Nationale. From there we had the idea of showing the Iran of the Michauds, as a tribute to their first assignment for the famous National Geographic on the migration of the Qashqa’i. Since the series produced by David Douglas Duncan in 1946, nothing had been done on this amazing transhumance of the tribes from the south of Iran to Isfahan.
Their photographs delight us, despite sometimes the hesitation of these first prints that  nevertheless already indicated their style and their view with a perfect mastery of the colour of their Kodachrome 25 films and a strength of view, taking hold of these unknown worlds with tenderness and humility.”
