Reached yesterday over the phone, Julien Frydman confirmed that he had stepped down as the head of Paris Photo to focus on a different project, which he will announce next February.

Here is the release :
After four successful years at the head of Paris Photo and its American edition Paris Photo Los Angeles, Julien Frydman has decided to leave his position as Director of the two fairs in early 2015 to concentrate on new endeavours.
« I have loved everything about this adventure: the arrival under the glass roof of the Grand Palais, repositioning the brand, international development at the Paramount Pictures Studios, market success and critical acclaim, not to mention the public’s outstanding enthusiasm. This collective accomplishment is thanks to the professionalism of a dedicated team, a leading group – Reed Expositions – but also and foremost, the galleries, the collectors and partners for whom the Paris Photo brand is synonymous with the world’s greatest art fair dedicated to the photographic medium. My mission is therefore accomplished! It is my hope that I have contributed to promoting the field and the recognition of photography as an artistic medium. » commente Julien Frydman
The recruitment of an artistic director is underway and Julien Frydman will ensure the transition necessary for the preparation of the two events. In addition, Paris Photo has enlisted Florence Bourgeois, previously General Director of PAD (Paris- London), to join the team. 2 Paris Photo, the premier international art fair dedicated to the medium of photography with record sales and visitor figures will now open a new chapter in its development.
