Introduction
“Offered by the Arlatan Museum in 2004, the exhibition “Restoring the Mountain” proposed a definition of what we call a landscape.” The Gilles Peyroulet & Cie exhibition for Paris-Photo will address this concept through contemporary artists, represented by the gallery, and iconic images of from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, also from the gallery’s collection.

Photography is an image that can define the notion of landscape as the artist who uses this medium stops a specific time, it is captured in time and space (by the choice of framing). This gives an image the singularity of a moment or a defined space that is not a reproduction of a documented setting. In the same way, the landscape is transformed by the addition of man.
