It was when he retired at 60 that Gilbert Garcin found his passion for photography. Specifically, the stories it allowed him to tell. The result, after 20 years, is an incredible and unique work of which this exhibition features some wonderful examples.
The little scenes Garcin finds are deceptively simple. All that he uses are a table for theatre, cut-out photographs, a few accessories and a slide projector… It’s a rudimentary but ingenious technique that owes nothing to digital technology. But the way he develops them, from the initial idea to the final result, stirs reflection in the viewer. Over 20 years of work, Garcin has produced around 260 images, averaging around 13 per year. It requires considerable effort to achieve the simplicity of these photographic fables.
