San Francesco of Paola is a very important saint of my land, Calabria in Italy. My project “Francesco di Paola” is a project that uses an entirely new iconography of the saint for the first time. Francesco is represented for the first time as a young and vigorous man, humanly vigorous, mystically powerful. The tables tell of some miracles and important moments in the life of the saint, from the miracle of the coins, to the well-known of the sail, to that of the vow made by the mother of Francesco, up to the photographic table that tells a “temptation” that the saint had. The iconographic references refer to Caravaggio and Baroque painting and through the use of a Christ iconography that refers to the Passion of Jesus Christ tell what was the light that illuminated the life of the saint, the light of charity that often has to go through a painful Calvary to shine bright and powerful. Charity understood as an active and constructive support of the human being. This project is a tribute to San Francesco and to my land, Calabria.
