Noi Satirat Damampai

Preview

Born in Thailand in 1982, Noi Satirat Damampai started her career as a photographer for magazines specialised in documentaries. She decided  to leave photo-journalism and to explore more artistic and intuitive photography.

On a trip to Laos, she decided to create the serie Mae Ying, “Women” in Lao. “While travelling through Laos from the North to the South, I’ve noticed several times the same thing: I saw mostly women and very few men in the villages.” Noi Satirat Damampai spontaneously made a dozen of black and white pictures after seeing these women.  An experience teaching her to makes pictures with a new kind of freedom, without specific research or technical limits.

A few months later, she finalized her serie, encouraged by a curator interested in her work. In not more than twenty portraits; she shows the source of her inspiration and amazement: “Beauty and simplicity of life.”
