Thanks to photographs in the collection of the McCord Museum, it is possible to see where Montrealers worked in the first decades of the twentieth century, to go back in time to discover the places and the atmosphere in which men and women of that time exercised their trades.
This foray into the workspaces of yesteryear allows us to see that while some of the occupations pictured still exist, working conditions have changed dramatically. These images also show the concentration of economic activity in Montreal in the area that today constitutes the Ville-Marie borough.
