The photographs and sculptures of Olivier Rebufa have been brought together for the exhibition La transparence des possibles, which demonstrates his protean artistic background founded primarily in staged photography. For the past two decades, the artist has developed a singular approach to his medium and the world through the use of Barbie dolls, as in his series Bimbeloterie, Saison des hommes dieux and Circus.
He crafts an artificial universe of dreams, populated by creatures that bend to his will. Languid lovers, virgins saved by heroes, sexual objects and stereotypical figures of femininity, the dolls in the artist’s work convey the image of the woman-object of our consumer society that crystallizes the fantasies of adults.
