Month of Photography in Central Europe: Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava and “MemoryLab”

Preview

As part of the European Month of Photography on the rest of the continent, exhibitions in Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava held throughout the month of November examine the use of photography in art. This year, the European Month of Photography is celebrating its 10th anniversary, as Europe commemorates the 100th anniversary of the First World War as well as the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

It’s therefore no surprise that the European Month of photography is holding a joint exhibition entitled MemoryLab: Photography Challenges History, which examines, with the help of contemporary artworks, the questions of History and of personal and group histories. MemoryLab features the work of 40 artists who were chosen to collaborate with the curators of each festival. Participating photographers include Broomberg & Chanarin, Antoine d’Agata, Nan Goldin, Stephanie Kloss, Klaus Mettig, Andreas Mühe, Erwin Olaf, Trevor Paglen, Aura Rosenberg, Anna Charlotte Schmid and many others.
