With the second round of the French presidential election only days away, I’ll share with you a small selection of portraits of the candidates, taken by photographers from Modds agency. These portraits depart from the standards of political communication, stretching the boundary between the artist’s vision and attempts to control a candidate’s image.
The Modds agency, founded in 2011 by Marie Delcroix and Olivia Delhostal, is dedicated to the production and dissemination of portraits by renowned photographers Jérôme Bonnet, Ludovic Carème, Vincent Ferrané, Roberto Frankenberg, Samuel Kirszenbaum, Antoine Le Grand, Vincent Lignier, Jean-François Robert, Denis Rouvre, Patrick Swirc, Benni Valsson and Rüdy Waks.
“Our goal is to bring artists together for a single project proclaiming each of their unique photographic styles. These images represent but a small portion of the history of portrait photography in France. They take their place among those images by other artists who have made their distinctive mark on the medium, and who through their images lay powerful claim to creative freedom.”
