Don’t ask the name of loneliness
The main objective of Mindaugas Gabrenas’ photography is the same as the method chosen by the artist himself – a dialogue with oneself, an endless journey, transforming time into space and space into image
While closely observing the world around him with the eyes of the inner child and listening to himself, the author creates a series of eternal wanderings through the maze of archetypal, abstract and universal concepts. This is the classic motif of a human journey towards oneself.
Time is also an important part of this series. Immanent in photography as a medium, thanks to a long exposure it becomes visible and physically tangible. Silent and slow in the photographs, he contrasts sharply with mundane reality. The silhouettes of people lost in time and space are unrecognizable, drowned in outer or perhaps inner worlds with no clear boundaries between them.
This series is an invitation to reflect on oneself, to encounter one’s own emotional experiences, to return from immersive socialization to individuality, from intelligent intellect to primal emotion, from daily routine – to personal requirement and to oneself.
