Viktoria Sorochinski was born in Ukraine, later settling in Russia, and then in 1990 at the age of 11, she left for Israel. At 17, she went to Canada, where she obtained a degree in fine arts. For over five years, she has been living and working in New York.

It is in Montreal in 2005 where she begins the series Anna & Eve, portraits set up by Anna, a photographer’s friend who by then was 23 and her 3-year-old daughter, Eve, also both Russian. They interpret fables, legends, ghosts, but also dreams, nightmares and fears.

Through her lens, Viktoria Sorochinski analyzes the mother-daughter relationship. Eve develops and changes, as changes her relationship with her mother. “Anna & Eve is a project of long duration, as most of my work, suspended between fantasy and documentation”, explains the photographer. “In 2009 I began Épiphanies Mineurs, a project that erases the boundary between fantasy and reality, putting the emphasis on the disintegration of the relationship between both. The following year the series Petite Grande Vie was conceived, focusing on the child’s world, revealing its dreams, its different psychological states and the everyday life, as he waits for mother to return from work.”
