It’s his eight-year stay in Pont-Aven, which transformed Michel Thersiquel in Thersi. In 1966, he moved near the bridge. Under a glass roof oriented north-west. This is where this son of a photographer-watchmaker from Bannalec produced portraits that immediately made him famous. It’s in the Painter’s city, rubbing with singers-writers-poets in full creation, that he forged a strong artistic culture. And that he made for himself a style, a name and a reputation. Incensed by his peers, exhibitions followed, in Brittany, in Paris and abroad.
For more than forty years, Thersi masterfully photographed Brittany. Artists, his friends, of course, but also and especially the humble, the forgotten of history: peasants, fishermen, craftsmen, ladies of the Bigouden country … Thousands of testimonies, an incredible saga of his country, an immense living fresco.
Well beyond appearances, Thersi, this magnificent prowler, knows how to capture truthful images. Every time, one wonders how there could be so much connivance between the photographer and those he meets … that’s the secret of Thersi.
