The Getty Images Award – Chris Hondros Foundation was attributed to American photographer Meridith Kohut for his journalistic and documentary work. Living in Caracas (Venezuela, Meredith Kohut covered violences of the Venezuelan current conflict , ravages of Hurricane Matthew in Haïti, the carceral situation in El Salvador and the refugee crisis in Darfur.
In her awards speech, the photographer paid tribute to Chris Hondros, who was killed on April 20, 2011 in Libya while covering the conflict: “Chris is a true legend among photojournalists – not only for his prolific career covering conflict around the world, but for the compassion and generosity he showed the people whose lives he documented, and his fellow colleagues.”
A grant of 20 000 € was given to help her developto develop a long-term photographic project.
