#I Breathe is the latest work by the photographer Mélanie Dornier. It deals with the subject of air pollution. As an inhabitant of Delhi for three years, she decided to join Airveda’s popular movement to increase public awareness of the scourge that affects life in Delhi.
In 2014, the WHO (World Health Organisation) declared the Indian capital the world’s most polluted city with an annual average of 183µg/m3. During the winter months, the most heavily polluted of the year, the media talk about life in a gas chamber.
By illustrating the public campaign #1 Breathe, Mélanie wishes to talk about air pollution in a more significant way and engage in a real dialogue. To deliver a clear, strong message, she asked the inhabitants of the megapolis to pose holding X-rays of their lungs and wearing facemasks.
