Łódź, the “Unloved”.
Łódź, a former manufacturing empire, where urbex and architectural splendor mix unabashedly, where past glory and present ugliness vie for the photographer’s favor. A city in search of itself, disconcerting but fascinating.
Two days to discover this city, unloved by the Poles themselves, difficult to get to grips with but moving when you take the trouble to study its history, whose photogenic charm is hidden in the leprous facades, industrial ruins and omnipresent tags that rival the murals. Add to this a bad fall, a nasty late-winter drizzle, and you’ll understand that this photo city-trip wasn’t the easiest, but certainly the most unusual.
