On March 11, Japan was struck by a series of shocks and a massive earthquake reaching almost 9 on the Richter scale, triggering a tsunami with waves 10 to 20 meters high crashing onto the coast, sweeping away houses, buildings and cars, wreaking total havoc. Another disaster then came after the wave damaged the cooling circuits of the nuclear power plant in Fukushima – a veritable nightmare. The toll is some 25 000 dead and missing, plus incalculable damage.
