I am very interested in the idea that we can’t experience pure reality because as human beings we are limited by our senses, and although the same principle is valid for photography, the transfiguration that happens inside the camera is different. The image a camera produces is unique and gives us another view to perceive the world and understand society, by revealing simple details or complex associations that our eyes can’t register.
William Eggleston and Stephen Shore are important names for me in photography – I learnt from them that sometimes our weird forgotten backyard can be more interesting for people than a famous city – if shown with poetry and personal interpretation.
This is what I try to reach with the series I’m sending over here, entitled Father’s Farm. It’s my father’s home now that he has retired, located in Porto Feliz (Happy Port), in the countryside of São Paulo.
