The 6th edition of the MAP Festival, led by Pierre Garrigues, is being held in Toulouse from now through the end of the month. This year’s artistic director, Ulrich Lebeuf, a photographer for the MYOP agency, chose the theme “Street photography.” Many famous photographers come to mind when we think of street photography, and this edition of the festival pays tribute to Saul Leiter, the pioneer of color street photography who passed away last November at the age of 90. A retrospective of his work from 1950 to 1960 is now on display at the Hôtel de Ville in the Salle Henri Martin.
This modestly sized festival gives visitors the opportunity to discover street photography today from the likes of Frédéric Stucin, Stephan Zaubitzer and Olivier Hodasava through several group exhibitions presented with the support of festival partners.
The MAP Festival also gives out prizes every year, judged by an international jury of professionals. For the Prix Talents 2014 on the theme “Street Photography: Be Itself,” the winners were as follows:
1st Prize: Shin Noguchi, Something Here
2nd Prize: Alban Lecuyer, Ici prochainement
3rd Prize: Danielle Houghton, All the World’s a Stage
The winners of the POM 2014 were presented during an evening screening.
Laurent Moynat, La Californie
Sophie Knittel, Demos Oneiroi
Elisabeth Schneider, Trompe la mort
This year’s jury was composed of Sebastien Dupuy (Picture Editor, Le Monde), Bertrand Desprez (Agence VU’ photographer), Aurélie Tisseyre (collector and member of Hold Up Photo), Ericka Weidmann (Editor-in-Chief of L’Oeil de la Photographie) and Jean-Marc Lacabe (Directeur of the Galerie Château d’eau).
