LODO Gallery : Vita Flumen : Mirrora

Preview

LODO Gallery presents the new exhibition Mirrora by Sandra Hernandez known as Vita Flumen.
The artist focuses on the relationship between human beings and their environment as well as the stories that emerge from them.
Jung postulated that the way we perceive the outside is a reflection of our inner personality.
Inspired by this “Law of the Mirror”, this series of photographs represents the artist evolving in daily scenarios, with mirrors in place of the face.

” Who am I ? Where am I going ? » Inspired by the “Law of the Mirror” of the Swiss psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, the project has two complementary concepts: the problem of identity, particularly feminine, and otherness, understood as the capacity to become conscious of oneself by looking at oneself from a perspective foreign to oneself.

Later, once Mirrora was revealed and the photography project was evolving, something completely unexpected happened: messages started coming in from several women asking to “be Mirrora.” Thus, the project took a turn by associating different models who preferred to remain anonymous behind the identity of Mirrora, something ironic and fascinating, because Mirrora has no identity. Each of these models was questioned about why they wanted to become this character, and the answers converge on a single point: through Mirrora, they feel free from judgment and the outside gaze.

Sandra Hernández (Vita Flumen) is a Mexican-Canadian photographer and Fujifilm ambassador. With a prolific career in architecture, Sandra’s photography focuses on urban life, as well as the relationship between humans and their environments, and the narratives that emerge between them.

Her passion for these subjects led her to publish the first book on street photography in the history of Mexico: “Antología de fotografía de calle mexicana”. She is the founder of Observadores Urbanos: a platform dedicated to the distribution and promotion of Ibero-American street photography. She is a member of the Women Street Photographers, Women in Street, Women Photograph, and The Raw Society communities, and this year she was selected to be part of the Eddie Adams Workshop class of 2023.

Sandra’s work, both photographic and written, has been published and featured nationally and internationally in media such as Forbes México, La Vanguardia, Radio UNAM, Revista Cuartoscuro, Revista Gatopardo, TV78 in France and Revue Épic .
