Little Big Galerie : Mathilde Marc – Ève Saint-Ramon : Yvettes. 130 years of stripping

Preview

At the Little Big Galerie, Les Yvettes celebrate the first “striptease” born in Montmartre…

…130 years ago. In 1894, the actress Blanche Cavelli had the audacity to undress on stage, in a pantomime number entitled «Le coucher d’Yvette».

Last March, this historic act was celebrated at Madame Arthur’s, in the very place where Cavelli took off her clothes, in the presence of renowned Burlesque performers. Having gravitated for years in the world of cabaret, photographer Mathilde Marc felt the desire to pay homage in images to current artists who practice this art of undressing. Or the heirs of “Yvette”. For this project, she photographed different generations of performers, while questioning them about the design of their acts, their commitments, their relationship to censorship and social networks…

Until June 24, she will exhibit this series and other works around the art of stripping, in duo with Ève Saint-Ramon, a key photographer of the French Burlesque scene.
