Small, unique more object, than book, this work from BnF editions (L’Œil curieux collection) immerses us in the world of French haute couture between the Second Empire and the 1940s. Photographed on the move by the Séeberger brothers in a luxurious and often humorous context, elegant women staged the creations of major fashion designers: Worth, Doucet, Lanvin, Poiret, Chanel, Patou… Though the brothers are known for their shots of Paris before 1914, their fashion photography was hardly showcased until now. A reflection on the fashion and social events of an era, a mirror of high society, the images presented in this book are part of a treasure of thirty-five thousand pictures taken between 1909 and 1939, which the National Library of France, in Paris, acquired in 1975.
