Yesterday, The International Photography known as Les Rencontres d’Arles unveiled its official program. The 2017 edition will exhibit over 250 artists in nearly 25 venues. The festival will traditionally begins on July 3, for an opening week displaying presentations by artists, visits, openings, signatures, evenings, screenings. It will end on September 24 with it the renowned school-program La rentrée en image.
This year, exhibitions are a strong display of associations and discoveries. A focus on Latin American photography sets the tone and resonates with the France-Colombia cultural year. 28 Colombian artists and photographers are shown. Another part of the program will overlook “experiences of the territory” : photographic journeys that might explore and discover unlooked grounds and regions (Joel Meyerowitz, Christophe Rihet, Dune Varela …). Echoes with the section “I write to you from afar” are strong, as this section contains a presentation of 62 Iranian photographers who dealt with the year 1938 in Iran. As we have to choose, Matthieu Asselin’s photographic report on Monsanto also promises a strong political moment .
Will be also continued several successful programs. Relectures will focus on the offset manipulations of the photographic object by the French sculptor Jean Dubuffet. Discovery prize will present the works of ten artists or collectives. Finally Arles Cosmos Book will once again be in Lycée Mistral courtyard to present publishers and photographic books in all its forms.
Arles is also expanding its summer delocalization. Grand Arles Express invests the train stations of Nîmes, Avignon, Aix and Toulon while Arles presents for the first time the 2015 exhibition Les Paradis. Annual Report in university Paris-Assas II (Paolo Woods and Gabriele Galimberti) Jimei (China) will also host exhibitions conceived and realized by the festival.
