After the Nuits Photographiques 2015 awards, which were presented on September 19, we wish to share with you the projects that were selected by the festival and presented to the jury. Today, we present “Hayman” by Hugo Ribes, member of the ITEM collective of Lyon. “Hayman” is the portrait of a mother, a young Burmese prostitute. In 2006, Thailand had 40000 prostitutes originating from Burma. By 2016, NGOs believe that 1 out of 2 prostitutes in Thailand will be of Burmese origin.
Born in 1988, after studying political science, he follows photojournalism studies at the École des Métiers de l’Information in Paris. In 2012, he joins the ITEM collective. His first documentary subject on the Gadz’Arts of Cluny is hailed by the ANI in 2013. He is currently working on the Burmese diaspora and more particularly on the condition of women on the Burmese-Thai border. He regularly collaborates with the French press.
