Patti Smith’s New York, at the Governor of Parma’s Palace

Preview

From April 8th to July 16th 2017, the Governor of Parma’s Palace is showing Higher Learning, an exhibition of Patti Smith’s photographs, with more than one hundred and twenty images shot in black and white in New York. In her private circle, and also during her trips around the world. Higher Learning is a kind of meditation on the act of artistic creation and the passage of time, with the full awareness of the potential of hope and consolation in art and literature. It is a visual journal showing the objects, statues, tools, tombstones and rooms belonging to those who have made our culture. Smith uses a Polaroid Land 250 camera, made in the sixties, and a Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera. The exhibition also has a section dedicated to the Patti Smith Library, with hundreds of literary and film works that have guided and inspired the artist throughout her life.
