For the first time, the work of Jean Pierre Devals appeared a few years ago in Phot’Aubrac. We had published some of his documentary photographs of Sub-Saharan regions, among those of his fellow photographers with a documentary tendency.
It is in a completely different register that images of Jean Pierre are hung in a very original gallery in Aveyron. The “Le Chant du Pain” gallery was the boutique of a famous and renowned baker. The latter transformed the sales premises of his bakery into an art gallery. Now, the sale of his wonderful and delicious breads takes place directly inside his spectacular bakery.
Our baker is also a passionate amateur of photography, so he naturally opened his gallery to the latest works of Jean Pierre Devals, his almost neighbor, a professional carpenter.
This time, we are in art photography which seeks itself in the arboreal universe and in movement. Although he is an amateur for his photographic activity, Jean Pierre’s other (professional) activity, in craftsmanship, reinforces the mastery of his imagination. The photographs, with their toned-down composition and carefully chosen density, carry the impressions necessary for emotional transfers.
We should see this interesting work resurface for the pleasure of lovers of images, in events on a much larger geographical scale.
