Paris-based publishing house Les Editions des Beaux-Arts has just brought out “La photographie avec les arts, histoire d’une collection”, a new book all about the collection of photographs curated by Les Beaux-Arts de Paris national school of fine art from the second half of the nineteenth century onwards. It is not only a valuable testimony to the emergence of the medium but also a history of the collection and of the formative experience of artists and architects in the nineteenth century.
Author Anne-Marie Garcia, head of collections and curator responsible for art prints and photography at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris, presents a set of 300 photographs taking an original theme-based approach exploring topics such as anatomy, drawing, the arts, decoration, architecture, France, the Orient, portraiture and Paris. The book provides biographical notes for each of the photographers including a glossary of techniques.
