Until November 2, La Nouvelle Chambre Claire presents Entre rêve et cauchemar, an exhibition by Jean-Christophe Clamagirand. It is accompanied by these few sentences.
I started photographing around the age of 15 with an old AGFA SILETTE-L camera given to me by my father. After training as a black & white printer at the ECPA ( the film and photography department of the army), during my military Service, I discovered the world of press photography by successively integrating the black & white laboratories of Gamma Presse Image, Sipa Press , then Roger-Viollet.
At the same time, I continue to take images, reportages as well as studio shots (portrait, still life, etc.). Architecture, urban, natural and industrial environments and the place occupied by human beings are the essential elements of my photographic work.
When our mind starts to wander to try to escape a reality, images collide whether they are dreams or nightmares, reminiscences of fears from our childhood or phobias buried deep in our unconscious. We therefore try to find refuge in memories evoking for some a journey, an escape towards a real or fantasized universe, existing or having existed. A desire to be elsewhere.
