La Gaîté Lyrique : Fabrique de l’époque : Dysturb : #WomenMatter

Preview

After having been closed following a change of management, La Gaîté Lyrique opens its doors to the public this weekend in May to introduce the new project Fabrique de l’époque, carried by an unprecedented alliance that are Arty Farty, ARTE France, SINGA, makesense and Actes Sud.

This opening weekend will be marked in particular by the start of an exhibition of #WomenMatter photographs, carte blanche to the Dysturb collective.

Dysturb is a creative agency and media founded by photojournalists who have covered conflict and humanitarian crises for over fifteen years. #WomenMatter is a long series of exhibitions, performances and multidisciplinary events to raise awareness, provoke discussions and deconstruct stereotypes. This positive and modern curation highlights portraits of women who inspire change to inform new generations about equality and diversity, defend women’s rights, encourage their talents and develop their potential.

Among the thirty photographers exhibited: 17 female photojournalists: Susan Meiselas, Bieke Depoorter, Chloé Sharrock, Anastasia Taylor-Lind, Kholood Eid, Sabiha Çimen…

Photography is a formidable weapon to continue to raise awareness and to fight for the respect of the rights of women and gender minorities in the world. The attack on the right to abortion in the United States is a cruel reminder of how the rights of women or gender minorities to dispose of their bodies should never be taken for granted. From China to Zanzibar, from the United States to Egypt, via Poland and Argentina, #WomenMatter reveals the unique perspective of photographers who accurately capture the daily lives of inspiring women around the world. A plural look and fieldwork that allows usons to be self centered and to inform ourselves about multiple geographical, political and cultural contexts.

This exhibition will be free to access until the beginning of July.
