« My very first idea was to pay homage to the French photography from forty years back. However, photographing a woman blessed with Anouk Aimé’s beauty in Deauville would be but a sad inspiration. I thus decided to use two Japanese models. I did not want them to fall into the cliché of “Fuji-Yama Geisha-Girls”. But I nonetheless wanted to add a zest of Japanese spirit and brought along yukatas (traditional summer kimonos), géta (traditional sandals) and ancient Japanese dolls. »
