“ Projects like In almost every picture come from my personal passion for telling stories with photography. And I’ve always found it inspiring to look beyond commercial projects for inspiration and as an outlet for creativity. At a certain point we figured out that we could incorporate our personal passions into the agency. We started KesselsKramer Publishing to put some of these passions out into the world. It started out as a very niche thing, but it’s grown into something that we’re all proud of.
I never know when the next in Almost every picture is going to come out, because I have to wait until I find an interesting story to tell, or until a story finds me.
I’m not interested in any one single found image. I’m more interested in series and sequences and the stories that these collections tell. Found photography is not that special anymore. It’s all over the Internet — people grouping dozens, sometimes hundreds, of pictures together. But very few of these have a narrative or tell an interesting story. That’s what I gravitate toward and that’s what I try to do with these projects.
There is an authenticity and naivety to found photography that I enjoy. I love the mistakes and the offbeat nature of most collections of found images. I try to bring these forgotten images out of obscurity and show them to people in a way that is hopefully interesting for them.”
Erik Kessels
First, there was KesselsKramer, a company which aspired to do things differently in the field of communications, exploring non-traditional ideas in unconventional media. KesselsKramer Publishing is an extension of this restless attitude. In images and words, it finds new ways of expressing creativity through printed matter. All KesselsKramer Publishing projects are initiated by the creative thinkers of KesselsKramer. Each book or magazine expresses their personal passions, whether that passion is a collection of found photographs, short stories or a celebration of unusual artworks.
KesselsKramer is an independent international communications agency located in Amsterdam. KesselsKramer believes in finding new ways for brands to tell stories using whatever media is most relevant to their message. The company believes in a wide diversity of creative projects, and doesn’t like to be bound by any one medium, but in executing interesting thinking in whatever way they can.
