On the occasion of the exhibition Hannah Darabi – Enghelab Street, The Revolution by Books, Iran 1979-1983, The Eye of Photography returns in images on 5 works presented in the BAL. This is Buds in the Storm by Kaveh and Hengameh Golestan. Published by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, in 1981
These series of Kaveh and Hengameh Golestan photo essays on children before, then during the revolution and during the war emphasize their suffering (labor and poverty under the Shah, martyrs during the war), but also their participation in the war. history of adults (during the hostage taking of the American Embassy, in the manufacture of Molotov cocktails, military operations …). The tone of the texts is that of the propaganda, but the photographs let perceive a completely different complexity. Some of them have become iconic images of the revolution and the war, in particular because they have been reproduced many times in school books.
