Kaunas Photo 2012 & Les Photaumnales

Preview

This year, the Photaumnales (France) and the KAUNAS PHOTO festival (Lithuania) celebrate their ninth year.

Mindaugas Kavaliauskas, founder and art director of the Lithuanian festival, has focused on the originality and freshness of contemporary photography, while paying tribute to traditional photography. Uncommon portraits in Tadao Cern series, staging in the style of classical photographers in Mariano Icaza’s work. While Dalila Virgolini choose staging herself, questioning our relationship to the social networks. For Meggan Gould and Monia Marcetta, photography and fiction are mixed, leaving space for the imagination.

The Photaumnales and the Kaunas Photo festival are partners. Two exhibitions are dedicaced to Lithuania in Beauvais. LT – a Tribe, Traditions, Trends presents Lithuania from the last century. The Thierry Girard’ exhibition give us a more contemporary view.

In Beauvais and in the Picardie region, photography is everywhere, even in the airport. This year, the art directors Adriana Wattel and Fred Boucher chose « Passage » as the theme. Passing places, like Guillaume Herbaut and his work about the Chernobyl’s Zone or Nolwenn Brod’s trip, following the itinerary of her dead dad. Time flying, from childhood to death with the pictures of Venetia Dearden and Eric Dexheimer. And presented for the first time in France, Burke+Norfolk Photographs from the War in Afghanistan put together images from the archives with today’s pictures . For this project, Simon Norfolk did a « re-photography » work, in John Burke steps.
