Julien Lombardi’s photos are timeless. His artistic approach to the medium transforms reality into a theater of illusion. His staging of the ordinary creates a simulacrum, and the neutral elements of our daily lives take on new meanings. No matter where they are captured, his images are enigmatic documents that gradually give rise to a sense of uncertainty.
Through meticulously crafted lighting and highly precise compositions, Lombardi empties the frame, preserving only a fragment. His minimalist images create a muted aesthetic that deterritorializes things and beings, gradually leading the viewer into fictional spaces.
After graduating with a master’s degree in ethnology, Lombardi embarked upon a long voyage during which photography came to be an essential means of understanding others, and himself. He began his career as a photographer through work with political refugees, commissioned by France Terre d’Asile.
He then moved to Paris and began to carry out assignments for fashion labels. Over time, Lombardi’s documentary approach evolved into an exploration of Fine art photography. The desire to bring into existence the mental images that form his universe led him to experiment with new forms of photography.
Today, Julien devotes his time to his personal work. Lombardi’s series are regularly exhibited in galleries and art centers. His work has received honors and is collected publicly and privately.
