“The spirit of a place” as a photographic intention. The spirit of a place is the synthesis of different elements that retrospectively shape feelings in us induced by emotions felt at the time. The spirit of a place is this “universal” impression that the place leaves in us, like Proust’s madeleine. It is this impression that I seek to extract and show.
From a photographic point of view, the spirit of a place is linked to the organization of space, to light, to contrasts, to colors, to noises or on the contrary to silence. What is the spirit of a place in a city like Nice or the French Riviera ?
