Black and white is beautiful. Photographer John Simmons proves that with his new exhibit A Life In Black and White that opened on April 12, 2018, at the Perfect Exposure Gallery in Los Angeles. A well-known cinematographer with three nominations for Emmy’s and one win, Simmons has been around since the early 1960s. A familiar figure on film and TV sets, he has kept his many powerful still images under wraps for years.
In this special exhibition, he examines a time gone by. He pays tribute to ordinary people living ordinary lives-living in anonymity, till they are immortalized through this photographer’s inquisitive yet unobtrusive lens. He captures what seem to be insignificant moments that on closer examination have so much to say.
“Photographers can’t help but put a frame around the world we see,” Simmons explains. “We are continually composing. I feel that all my pictures tell a story. Each one has its own spirit and soul. I have an affinity for people and whatever they share with me the very moment I press that shutter becomes a testament to their lives.”
