The exhibition is great. It is entitled Fashion Galaxy and features the work of French photographer Jean-Marie Périer. It is on view at Galerie 12, the Parisian gallery of Valérie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing. It brings together some thirty portraits of fashion designers, including Christian Lacroix, Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake, Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo Takada, Sonia Rykiel, Vivienne Westwood, Yves Saint Laurent, and many others. Each picture more creative than the others; it’s a real pleasure. It is also the demonstration that Jean-Marie Périer is not only the privileged witness of the music world of the 1960s but also a great fashion photographer. “In 1990, after spending 10 years in the United States,” he recalls, “my sister Anne-Marie Périer called me to work for ELLE, where she was in the process of revolutionizing the magazine as Editor-In-Chief. I jumped at the chance. It would not have happened without the desire of Anne-Marie, I was a little too “Rock’n roll” and not “couture” enough for the editorial team. Furthermore, with the rock stars of old having become fathers of families, the fashion designers had taken over. They had the same fantasy, the talent, and the means to invent their life. Nobody lived like Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld, or Jean Paul Gaultier. With the help of my friend, the artistic director François Baudot, we were able to realize a great series on the universe of fashion designers.”
