Isolation
Some time ago, I saw a news story that older generations around the world are living their last chapter of life in rather a lonely and isolated way, and Korea has especially higher rates than the rest of the world. The news also said that the proportion of men living in such conditions is much higher than that of women.
I wanted to deliver this feeling of isolation through photography. Some of the photos show loneliness more directly and literally, but some others show this in a rather implied and contradictory way by delivering the actions of the subjects that seem somewhat out of touch with the rest of the world.
The young man in the last picture looks like somehow he is trapped in the mirror, which contrasts with the bird flying away freely on the right side. Through this, I wanted to touch on today’s masculinity issue that restricts men from expressing themselves. I believe this is related to the isolation and loneliness of older men in our society.
