Isabelle Rozenbaum –Les corps culinaires

Preview

Last November 2011, Isabelle Rozenbaum among dozens of competitors was awarded the kitchen picture prize for her pictures on street food. Technical perfection along with esthetic originality for her lighting and installation, her work, is now considered a reference, and is finally recognized. A book of 90 pictures, Les Corps Culinaires, has just been released, perfectly illustrating the photographic path of a master in her field.

Her culinary pictures are more than just still lives or pretty garden-plates in magazines. Isabelle Rozenbaum’s eye can actually transform her food material into surrealist “installations”. And behind these ephemeral works, she includes the men and women backstage in this theater of movement we call the kitchen. The book shows the diversity of this ethno-culinary work she began over twenty years ago: a gastronomical universe the photographer explores in depth and diversity, from the ground to the plate, not forgetting wine.

After working with Guy Martin, she created the first European photo library, and decided to enlarge her world and include international cuisine, traditions, cultures and cults to her panorama, and the role food and rituals play . Men and countries are revealed through their dishes and rituals. Beyond gastronomy, there are colors and flavors. There is no mention of fusion, just an ancestral knowledge assiduously respeated and respected.

African and Asian treasures are revealed through women cooking, often in the street, transformed into master chefs thanks to Isabelle Rozenbaum who passionately captures these melodies of taste, symphonies of color, scent and flavor. An essential project superbly realised.
