The director general of Reporters Without Borders since 2012, Christophe Deloire, died on Saturday June 8 “from a devastating cancer”, RWB said in the following press release.
The team of the international secretariat of Reporters Without Borders, its offices and sections as well as their boards of directors have the immense sorrow to announce the death of Christophe Deloire, secretary general of Reporters Without Borders International and director general from Reporters Without Borders, following a devastating cancer.
Christophe Deloire had held his position since 2012 and transformed the association, marked by renewed growth and impact, into a global champion for the defense of journalism, for twelve years. Founding president of the Forum on Information and Democracy since 2018 and appointed general delegate of the Estates General of Information in 2023, Christophe Deloire was a tireless defender, on all continents, of freedom, independence and pluralism of journalism, in a context of informational chaos. Journalism was the fight of his life which he led with unshakeable conviction.
Reporters Without Borders sends its most sincere condolences to his wife, Perrine, his son, Nathan, his parents and all his loved ones.
For Pierre Haski, president of the RSF Board of Directors, “Christophe Deloire led the organization at a crucial moment for the right to information. His contribution to the defense of this fundamental right has been considerable. The Board of Directors shares the pain of its loved ones.”
