Shortly after the Second World War, Henri Salesse ((1914-2006) began working as a photographic operator at the Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism (MRU). MRU production, similar to the photographic work produced by the American Farm Security Administration (FSA), was above all political.
Didier Mouchel, who is currently working on this important body of archived work, will progressively be revealing the quality of Henri Salesse’s work. His photographic work in Rouen in 1951 and Petit-Quévilly in 1952 show the particularity of his vision, unique compared to the majority of the work accomplished for the MRU. This exhibition is part of GwinZegal’s Image Documentaire at the Centre d’art et de Recherche that is showing three photographers in three locations including Chris Killip, Mathieur Pernot et Henri Salesse.
